Dr. Mikio Nihira is an Associate Professor of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.He is the Director of the Fellowship training program for the University.He is also the Director of Surgical and Obstetrical Programs for the Clinical Skills Education and Testing Center for the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.He performed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California at Los Angeles.In 2001, he completed a three-year fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, the University of Maryland and the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Nihira is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American College of Surgery, as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.He is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, the American Urogynecologic Society and the National Association for Continence.He has authored numerous articles in scientific journals as well as several chapters for textbooks standard to the field of gynecology and urogynecology.He is a nationally recognized expert in female pelvic floor disorders and has been quoted in publications including the Chicago Sun Times, the Dallas Morning News and Shape magazine. His clinical interests include the treatment of urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and other pelvic floor disorders.His research interests include the study of graft materials to augment pelvic floor repairs and the use of simulation to improve surgical training.
